PASTURES GROUND FOUNDATION – Growing Together
Building resilient communities through food security
What we do
Food insecurity in rural northern Ghana is seasonal, persistent, and increasingly intensified by climate change. During prolonged dry periods, households struggle to access fresh vegetables, relying instead on calorie-dominant diets that lack essential nutrients.
Pastures Ground Foundation addresses this challenge by enabling women to produce nutritious food year-round through community-driven gardening and reliable water access.
Community Gardens
We establish women-led community gardens that increase access to fresh, nutritious vegetables during lean seasons.
Sustainable Water Access
We support food production through reliable boreholes and climate-resilient water systems designed for dry-season farming.
Women’s Empower-ment
We prioritise women as key drivers of household nutrition and food security by improving access to land and productive resources.
Climate Resilience
Our projects strengthen communities’ ability to withstand dry spells and future climate-related food shocks.
Our Impact
Community Gardens & Sustainable Water Access – Upper West Region
Started in 2023 with 5 households
In Billaw, a rural community in Ghana’s Upper West Region, Pastures is implementing a pilot project that combines women-led community gardens with dedicated water infrastructure. The initiative enables year-round vegetable production in an area heavily affected by dry spells, rising food prices, and limited dietary diversity.

Why It Matters
Pastures Ground Foundation works in rural northern Ghana, where food insecurity is up to 80% higher than the national average.
