Our Projects

We strengthen food security in rural communities

Supporting women-led, nutrition-sensitive agriculture to build resilient households in climate-vulnerable regions of Ghana.

We Grow Food

We support women-led community gardens that increase access to fresh, nutritious vegetables during lean seasons.

We Provide Water

We establish reliable and sustainable water systems to enable year-round food production in climate-vulnerable communities.

We Empower Women

We equip women with access to land, resources, and tools to improve household nutrition and livelihoods.

We Build Resilience

Our programmes help households adapt to dry spells, climate shocks, and seasonal food shortages.

We Stengthen Nutrition

We focus on improving dietary diversity beyond calorie-dominant diets by increasing access to vegetables and fruits.

We Work with Communities

All our projects are community-driven, locally owned, and designed for long-term sustainability.

IMPACT Story

Flagship Project

Community Gardens & Sustainable Water Access

This flagship project addresses seasonal food insecurity in Billaw, a rural community in the Upper West Region of Ghana, by establishing women-led community gardens supported by dedicated water infrastructure. The initiative responds to recurring dry spells, rising food prices, and limited access to fresh vegetables that significantly affect household nutrition during lean seasons.

Community Gardens & Sustainable Water Access

Billaw is located in the Lamussie District of the Upper West Region, where most households depend on rain-fed agriculture and experience seasonal food shortages. Limited rainfall, high temperatures, and recurring dry spells restrict crop diversity and access to fresh vegetables, particularly during the dry season.

The project establishes community gardens managed by women and supported by a borehole dedicated to gardening activities. Each participant is allocated a plot to grow vegetables for household consumption, with surplus produce sold locally to generate income.

Sustainability & Community Ownership

Community members contributed labour to fencing and land preparation, while women manage daily garden activities. The project promotes adaptive practices such as mulching, mixed cropping, and crop rotation to conserve water and improve soil health.

What’s Next

The next phase will focus on expanding the garden and upgrading to solar-powered irrigation, increasing dry-season production and reaching more households while strengthening resilience to future climate shocks.

Outcomes

Improved access to fresh vegetables during the dry season

Better dietary diversity at household level

Reduced household food expenditure & additional income from surplus produce

Stronger community cooperation and ownership
